Elhers-Danlos, Posturology and College Athletes

Additional information

This webinar discusses Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a group of 13 heritable connective tissue disorders affecting skin, joints, and blood vessels. The most common type, hypermobile EDS (hEDS), is characterized by joint hypermobility, chronic pain, and joint instability. It affects about 1 in 3,100 to 5,000 people. The case study follows a college athlete diagnosed with hEDS and explores posturology techniques used over five weeks to improve their condition. These techniques included exercises targeting reflexes, motor control, and proprioception to enhance joint stability and reduce pain.

For personal coaches, understanding EDS and posturology is vital. Athletes with hEDS require tailored training to avoid injury and manage symptoms. By incorporating exercises that improve proprioception, reflexes, and motor control, coaches can better support athletes with connective tissue disorders, ensuring safe and effective training that promotes performance while reducing the risk of dislocations and chronic pain.
